How to ask for Money: An Introduction to Major Gift Fundraising

01:00 PM at Goodman Community Center (Length: 2hrs)

Effective, sustainable, built-for-the-long-haul organizations are continually engaged in annual gift, major gift, and planned gift fundraising all the time. Unfortunately, grant-writing, events, and membership systems are often more urgent and time intensive, and as a result, major gift fundraising – building and sustaining relationships with individual donors – is too often left undone. This is a introductory course in major gift fundraising, beginning with understanding motivations behind major gift decisions. Participants will learn where major gift development should fit in a well-rounded fundraising program, how to find major gift prospects, how to think creatively about and plan for cultivation activities, and the differing roles of staff and Board. This workshop is for both fund development staff and Board volunteers and is appropriate for all levels of fundraising experience.

•  Understand why major gift fundraising is important and how it fits into a well-rounded fundraising program.
•  Learn practical ways to think about and plan for major gift cultivation and solicitation.
•  Understand the roles of staff and Board in managing a major gift development program.
